Carnival’s new Rewards program is live — and casino play now counts

Just saw that Carnival officially launched Carnival Rewards on September 1, replacing VIFP, and one thing that jumped out at me is that casino activity is now part of how guests can earn within the new setup. I read about it first in Carnival’s own news section, then checked a couple cruise news writeups to make sure I wasn’t missing the fine print. For this crowd, that feels like pretty big news even if we all know offers and comps are still entirely up to the line. I’m curious how this is going to feel in real life for the regular casino cruisers here, especially the folks who used to think of loyalty and casino marketing as two separate lanes. Do you think this makes Carnival more interesting for casino players, or just more complicated? And has anyone here already sailed under the new program yet?

What I’m watching is whether this changes the onboard feel more than the headline. If casino play now feeds into the broader rewards structure, some people who ignored loyalty before may suddenly pay attention to points, tiers, and how charges post across the trip. That could be good, but also a little muddy if the old “casino side” and “cruise side” expectations don’t line up cleanly. I haven’t sailed Carnival since the switch, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has: was the tracking easy to follow in the app/account, or did it feel opaque once you were onboard?

What jumps out at me is less “can I get more” and more “who owns the scoreboard now?” Back in the old days, cruise loyalty and casino marketing were like two cousins who only met at weddings. Now Carnival’s at least admitting the family resemblance. If they do it well, fine. If not, we’ll get the usual dockside sport of people comparing screenshots and swearing the numbers moved funny. I’d be especially curious whether table players see anything clearly reflected, or if this is going to feel a lot more straightforward for slots than for dice and cards. Anybody actually sailed since Sept 1 and looked at both sides of the account?

I haven’t sailed under the new setup yet, but I’m real curious how it handles the in-between stuff, not just straight casino play. On our last Carnival out of New Orleans, Denise had slots charges, I had table play, and we had the usual steakhouse-and-drinks damage layered on top. If this new program rolls more of that trip into one bucket, some folks may like it, but it better be easy to read without needing a detective and a po’boy. What I want to hear is whether anybody saw updates during the cruise or only after they got home.
