Carnival’s new Rewards program is live, and casino play now counts differently

Been reading through Travel Weekly and Carnival’s own help pages, and the big change is finally here: Carnival Rewards launched on September 1, replacing VIFP. What caught my eye for our crowd is that casino play now feeds into the new system too, with status stars tied to casino points earned during the sailing. That’s a pretty different animal from the old days when cruise loyalty and casino loyalty mostly lived in separate neighborhoods and only waved at each other from across the street. I can see why some folks like the flexibility, and I can also see why some longtime sailors are grumbling into their coffee. Question for the board: for those of you who’ve sailed Carnival this month, have you noticed anything different yet in how the casino side feels onboard or afterward, or is it still too early to tell?

I haven’t been on Carnival yet since the switch, but I’m really curious how visible this is onboard. Like, are people actually seeing the stars/status piece update in the app or at the kiosk during the cruise, or is it more of an after-the-fact thing? That’ll matter a lot for how “real” the change feels to casino players. My guess is the casino itself probably still feels mostly the same night to night, but the follow-up offers and how people track their play may feel different over time. If anyone’s sailed already, did the hosts mention the new program at all?

We were on Mardi Gras earlier this month, and the day-to-day casino felt about the same to me. Same machines, same players camped out in their lucky corners, same little crowd around the table games after dinner. What did feel different was the paperwork side of it. Gene and I asked at the players desk and got a polite "still rolling out" sort of answer, so I wouldn’t expect crystal-clear explanations yet. If anybody’s sailed since then, I’m curious whether your folio or kiosk showed anything tied to stars during the cruise, or if it all showed up later.

Sailed out of New Orleans a couple weeks back and asked two different folks about it, one at the casino desk and one at guest services. Got two variations of “it’s new, give it a minute,” which is about as Carnival as a Guy’s burger with too many napkins. Onboard, nothing jumped out at me on the casino side beyond the usual point tracking. Denise checked the app more than I did and didn’t see anything especially flashy tied to stars in real time. My hunch is the real story won’t show until a few sailings stack up. Anybody gotten a post-cruise email or account update that looked different?
